Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff declared a national mobilization day this past Saturday, wherein state workers and the military worked together in eradicating insects from offices and homes.

"All of us need to take part in this battle. We need help and good will from everyone. Collaborate, mobilize your family and your community," declared President Rousseff.

"I will insist, since Science has not yet developed a vaccine against the Zika virus, that the only efficient method we have to prevent this illness is the vigorous battle against the mosquito."

Other countries' battle against Zika

Aside from Brazil, the United States of America is also preparing its own fight against Zika virus especially as the temperature is expected to rise in the coming months. Mosquitoes proliferate in hot weather.

"Whether that poses a problem will be become clear in the next few months as Zika pushes north and threatens U.S. shores," said Prof. Grayson Brown of the University of Kentucky. "You have to make it socially unacceptable to have mosquitoes, the way you make it socially unacceptable to drive drunk."

The Obama Administration has requested Congress to release emergency funds to thwart the Zika virus.

Meanwhile, Florida Governor Rick Scott has ordered state officials to strengthen their mosquito-control efforts in heavy populated areas such as Tampa and Miami.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said that the rise of Zika virus is expected and the efforts to fight against the virus should increase.

Meanwhile, European countries have been urged to develop a security plan for when mosquitoes start proliferating in Europe during the seasons of spring and summer.

The World Health Organization has declared the Zika virus as an international public health emergency concern, warning that more than four million people could be infected by the end of 2016.
