With Apple finally launching its iPhone SE variant on Tuesday, a report hinted that it may not be a hit product that it will contribute in boosting the iPhone sales in China.

The new mobile device from the American tech giant comes with a smaller display, similar to that of the previously launched iPhone 5S variant two years ago. This feature was said to be the reason why it might not make the smartphone market in the country totally fall in love with it.

Based on the assessment released by Counterpoint Technology Market Research, an analysis firm, Apple was able to sell 30 million units of the older four-inch iPhone last year. This reportedly represented 13 percent of the company's total iPhone sales in China during the said year.

James Yan, the research director of the analysis firm, revealed that iPhone SE may not be "pretty popular in China because consumers here regard smartphones as an important tool for entertainment where large-screen displays are preferred."

"Though the majority of consumers prefer large-screen smartphones, there is always a demand for smaller-screen gadgets," Yan shared, according to China Daily. "This is a profitable segment that Apple can't ignore, especially when its growth begins to slow down."

The new device from Apple, which is regarded as the smaller version of iPhone 6s, sells for 3,288 yuan or $507 in China.

In the meantime, Above Avalon, Apple's analysis company, there are about 170 million existing users of four-inch iOS-run gadgets.

Do you agree with the speculation that iPhone SE will not contribute that much in China's iPhone sales?
