Badminton World Federation incumbent No. 1 player Chen Long of China demonstrated another epic come-from-behind-victory to advance to the quarterfinals of the OUE Singapore Open 2016 on Thursday.

The 2012 London Olympics men's singles bronze medalist avoided elimination after being down by a game by bouncing back in the second set and pulled away with the win in the succeeding game. Chen overcame the tournament's two-time champion Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand 17-21, 21-18, 21-9 and moved to his very first quarterfinals appearance in the Singapore City-based badminton event after two previous unsuccessful attempts.

"(Boonsak) is a two-time champion here and three times the runner-up. I knew that coming into today's match and I did a lot of preparations for it," said Chen, who also fought hard for a first round win against H.S. Prannoy on Wednesday. "It doesn't matter if I eventually win the title here or not, I just wanted to beat the best player in the Singapore Open."

According to The New Paper, the 27-year-old two-time world champion Chinese ace and Thailand's 34-year-old Ponsana, who presently occupies the 30th spot in the world rankings, were engaged in a fascinating cat-and-mouse game at the Indoor Stadium's Court 2, peppered by deft flicks, trick shots and dives that drew gasps and appreciative applause.

Chen, who has a career record of 304 wins and 67 losses, earlier set a humble target of reaching his first quarterfinal appearance at the BWF World Super Series category tournament.  The two-time All England Super Series Premier champion has garnered a total of 90,701 points in 15 tournaments that he has competed in.

With the win, the two-time All England Super Series Premier winner has booked a quarterfinal showdown against current world No. 16 Ng Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong, China for a semifinals berth.

The 21-year-old Ng is the 2012 World Junior Championships winner.
