It will have an additional, smaller analog "nub" above the face buttons on its right side.

The face buttons have been colored to match the classic SNES controller colors. Also, there will be two new shoulder buttons on the handheld's backside which resides next to current left and right buttons.

Nintendo said it will have a powerful CPU. This means games will be playable only on the new 3DS.

At the bottom screen, it shows NFC support that will tie in with Nintendo's amiibo figurines. It will be used to communicate with games like Super Smash Bros.

An amiibo is an NFC-based platform, developed by Nintendo. This optional enhancement platform allows compatible figurines to link with supported video games.

It allows two-way transfer of data into and out of a supported game and between supported platforms.

The first 12 amiibos are available for pre-order and costs US$12.99.

These include Wii Fit Trainer, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Marth, Villager, Kirby, Fox, Samus, Yosh, Mario, Peach, and Link.

The user's amiibo can store game data.

The upper display of 3DS is 3.88 inches while the 3DS XL retains the same 4.88-inch stereoscopic 3D display screen.

The new 3DS sells for US$154 and comes in black and white.
