The 2015 Wuhan Asian Champion earned enough points by conquering the Singapore City-based badminton event to unseat the two time-time world champion and incumbent world No.1 Carolina Marin of Spain, when the weekly world rankings are updated on Thursday. The Spaniard held the top spot for 26 consecutive weeks.

"I am now more confident of getting the gold at the Olympics," said Ratchanok, who has set her sights at the upcoming Rio Olympics in August.

This is Ratchanok's third consecutive Superseries triumph in as many weeks after her victories in India and Malaysia.

Meanwhile in the men's singles event of the tourney, world No. 56 Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia beat South Korea's current No. 10 Son Wan-ho 21-16, 13-21, 21-14 to claim the title in a championship match that took one hour and three minutes.

Kuncoro has battled his way to achieve the feat, beating higher seeded and top-notched players that participated in the competition, including second-seeded and current world No. 4 Lin Dan of China in their semifinal clash.

It was Sony's second Singapore Open title (his fifth Superseries crown); the former Indonesian national team player won the crown in 2010 after beating Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand.

"It's an unexpected win, going through the qualifiers and eventually emerging champion," said the 31-year-old Sony.

The Chinese duo of Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan claimed the men's doubles event, while the pair of Ko Sung Hyun and Kim Ha Na of South Korea won the mixed doubles.
