Apple is said to be planning to launch a bigger and thinner MacBook lineup this year. The speculations come after the Cupertino-based multinational technology company launched its 9.7-inch iPad Pro and iPhone SE last month.

In a post, 9to5 Mac hinted that the company is set to do "some spring cleaning" in order to make way for its new machines. The site noted that that the MacBook Airs, MacBook and Retina MacBook Pros were last updated in 2015.

It hinted that there is a possibility Apple will let go of its 11-inch unit as it prepares for a 12-inch machine as its "best small-screen laptop." Also, coming is an "ultra-thin 15-inch" model.

The said ultra-thin MacBooks will reportedly "adopt metal injection molding-made (MIM) hinges," according to Digitimes.

Meanwhile, 9to5 Mac added that the new units will have "new Intel processors, storage and graphic options." Aesthetically, the unit will reportedly have a rose gold color option. There are also assumptions as to what models may have a USB-C-only treatment.

Future MacBook SSDs could potentially get faster as well with the super-fast Optane technology. Nevertheless, Apple may reportedly have to look for a Wi-Fi chip given that Broadcom supposedly scaled back.

The smaller MacBook and the upgraded model have been confirmed to be in the works, but there is no release date yet. However, rumors claim that the new and faster MacBooks would debut at Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) this coming June. On the other hand, the latest version of MacBook Pro may be out by the second half of this year.
