Singer-songwriter Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen is embarking on another career - children's book author.

Springsteen has just finished writing his book entitled "Outlaw Pete" based on his 2009 song of the same title.

The eight-minute song was part of Springsteen's "Working on a Dream" album.

The song was also based on another children's book, "Brave Cowboy Bill", which was read to Springsteen as a child by his mother.

"Outlaw Pete" the novel and song revolves around a bank-robbing baby who eventually realizes the error of his ways.

Simon & Schuster will be publishing the said book and, cartoonist and author Frank Caruso illustrated the pictures and cover.

Jonathan Karp, president of Simon & Schuster, told the New York Times last Thursday that the picture book is as much for adults as it is for children.

"It's a book for anybody who loves a good Western," Karp added.

Caruso, on the other hand, shared that Springsteen created a truly solid character in the song as well as the book. "The first time I heard the song this book played out in my head. Like Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, Dorothy Gale and for me, even Popeye, Outlaw Pete cuts deep into the folklore of our country and weaves its way into the fabric of great American literary characters," he shared.

With lyrical text such as "you can't undo the things you've done," and with Springsteen at the helm, the book is guaranteed to be deeply effective.

Springsteen is famed for his work with the E Street Band and is recognized for his poetic lyrics which focus on the American working class as well as political sentiments about his native New Jersey.

Springsteen's lyrics have often been described as "cinematic", with themes that often delve into highly personal realizations about commitment and, dismay over every day life.

"Outlaw Pete" will be available in bookstores on November 4.
