U.S. Open: Peng Shuai Continues to Win Both at Singles and Doubles Match Play

China's Peng Shuai continued her winning ways as she won her doubles match play along with partner Hsieh Su-wei from Chinese Taipei in the U.S. Open at Flushing Meadows in New York on Saturday.

Second-seeds Peng and Hsieh eliminated the tandem of Darija Jurak of Croatia and American Megan Moulton-Levy in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

French Open champions Peng and Hsieh were consistent in their serves and returned the ball well to advance to the third round against the duo of Kimiko Date-Krumm of Japan and Czech Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova who earlier defeated the Chinese Taipei team of sisters Hao-ching Chan and Yung-jan Chan.

The 28-year-old Peng also bagged another match in singles play as she defeated 28th seed Roberta Vinci in two sets, 6-4, 6-3, on Friday.

Peng already duplicated her feat of making the fourth round of the tournament, the last being in 2011. She faces another seeded player who also participates in the doubles, 14th seed Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic, on Sunday.

Safarova defeated another doubles participant, Alize Cornet of France, who made headlines by upsetting Serena Williams at the recent Wimbledon Championships in the third round before losing to runner-up Eugenie Bouchard.

The 50th ranked Peng says that she needs to have "more courage" and to be "more stronger" in her match against Safarova.

Peng hopes to achieve a personal best of making the quarter-finals for the first time in any Grand Slam event as a singles player.

Tennis fans in China now have a reason to cheer even as World No. 3 Li Na is sidelined due to a knee injury, but how well is Peng handling the pressure?

"I don't want to take the pressure," Peng said. "It's tough to play."

"Just be simple. Play for yourself or for your country," Peng added.
