Internet watchdogs shut down more than 1,000 websites in China on the first quarter of the year, Xinhua reported.

China's internet regulators closed 1,046 illegal websites on grounds of spreading pornographic contents and information that threatens national security. Eighty-five websites were reprimanded and more than 8,000 microblogging sites were shut down, the Cyberspace Administration of China said on Tuesday.

Some 89 cases were referred to judicial bodies.

One of the affected sites, Ronganwang.com, was reportedly spreading violent propaganda and terrorist-related activities. It was suspended by internet securities in Guanxi.

Other websites were allegedly shut for posting and performing illegal operations such as blackmailing, illicit fundraising, test cheating, and other malicious activities.

President Xi's administration aims to fortify the throttling of these illegal websites. Xi also encourages the general public to help the government's drive towards a "clean and righteous" cyberspace by sending tips for any untoward websites noticed. China urges its netizens to behave promptly online as well.

Even one of China's most famous vlogger Jiang Yilei, famously known as Papi Jiang, was reprimanded by media officials for her use of foul language. The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television temporarily removed her clips with "vulgar and coarse content" and will only be published once these have been edited according to the state's regulation.

"As a self-made media figure, I will be more careful of my words and image, resolutely responding to requests for correction in internet clips, and broadcast positive energy for everyone," she said.
