The 33-year-old two-time Olympic silver medalist Chong Wei dispatched the local favorite Chen, who is a two-time World champion and an Olympic bronze medalist, in one hour and 13 minutes.

The Asian Championship, which he has last won in year 2006, was Chong Wei's third title this year. The Malaysian badminton superstar won the Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold in January and emerged as the winner of the recently concluded Malaysia Open last month.

The win marked Chong Wei's tenth victory over Chen in their 22 head-to-head encounters.

The newly crowned Asian champion will be taking home a cash prize of US$15,000.00 while the runner-up Chen Long will still be US$7,600.00 richer.

Meanwhile, mixed doubles event top seed and reigning world No.1 tandem of Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei of China overpowered the present second-best badminton pair in the world Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir of Indonesia to claim the event's title.

The dynamic Chinese duo lost the first set but bounced back in the second game of the championship match to wrap up the crown with a 16-21, 21-9, 21-17 victory against the top Indonesian pair.
