HTC sales in China continues to see a downward trend. Only 251 orders were allegedly made after 11 days of the pre-order sale of the HTC 10.

Sources told Focus Taiwan that sales plummeted not because of the company or the hardware but due to the specifications of the smartphone. Chinese clients were reportedly "irritated by a move by HTC to use a lower grade of specifications... offered in... China... than the version provided in other markets around the world."

According to GSM Arena, instead of configuring the HTC 10 based on the standard Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 SoC and 4GB of RAM design, the HTC 10 Lifestyle comes only with Snapdragon 652 and 3GB of RAM.

Other than the difference mentioned above, everything else between the two models including the specs and features is relatively the same. As a result, Chinese buyers responded with cold shoulders despite the fact that the latest model was introduced at a much lower price in the country (at roughly $584).

The sales of the HTC 10 have been monitored at China's two top online e-commerce websites JD and TMall. Pre-selling orders for HTC 10 is open until May 8 as the device is set to be released in China on May 9.

Meanwhile, the HTC 10 equipped with SD820 is reportedly "coming soon." But it seems like Chinese buyers are more willing to wait for the flagship model than just settle for something similar with mediocre innards.

On the other hand, a local news agency in Taiwan has revealed that HTC is planning to develop a new technology particularly focused on the virtual reality business. Focus Taiwan said HTC is "planning to spin off the new company in the future" and has "paid-in capital of NT $1 million and Wang is its chairwoman."
