Smart home appliances such as lighting systems, security alarms, and kitchen products that can be controlled through an Apple device have gained popularity in the last few years. Unfortunately, despite the increase in these innovations, users are still prompted to download separate apps in order to control these smart home gadgets.

Because of the need for a centralized application that would be able to access all available Apple enabled device, third party developers have since created apps such as Home, Devices, and Kontrol that can do exactly that. Thankfully, according to a source, Apple is rumored to have developed a unified Homekit app that would be able to replace third party applications.

According to the leak, as reported by Mac Rumors, the new and improved Homekit should arrive with the upcoming iOS 10 update. Supposedly, the leakster, who have spoken out about the upcoming update on an Amazon review, works for the marketing division of the tech giant.

"As I work in marketing for Apple, we test many Smart Home devices, especially for iOS HomeKit integration. Some advice, there are many third party applications, most free, that offer more control and customization(s) with many Smart Home devices. 'Yonomi' is a free app that I often use, 'Home' is another which cost $14.99. Both offer support for many devices with more added daily (including Amazon "Echo"). The next version of iOS due this fall will have a standalone HomeKit app as well," read a part of the leak's statement.

Reports claim that Apple has already trademarked the HomeKit app icon.

Moreover, it was revealed that there is a possibility that the new consolidated application could be called Home. However, this is not the first time a rumor regarding a unified HomeKit app made its rounds online.

Around the same time in 2015, Mashable reported that the Home app would be announced during Apple's 2015 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) and the application would be launched along with the introduction of an iOS update; however, unfortunately, the 2015 WWDC came and left without the unveiling of the sought after HomeKit app.
