A drone flying over Shark Bay in western Australia captured an incredible shark feeding frenzy that involves 70 tiger sharks devouring a dead humpback whale. This rare footage was captured by an island tour company, Eco Abrolhos Cruises, that has been exploring around Kimberley, that was taken on May 20.

Sharks were already circling around the dead whale, as they ravaged large chunks of flesh from the carcass while tourists looked over from two boats. Experts believe that the whale is estimated to weigh around almost 40 tons and measured as long as 15 meters.

According to tour operator Jay Cox, the tour went around the hungry sharks for about two hours, really close to where the action is as one could reach out to touch the sharks. The tiger sharks appeared docile and well fed where the staff counted the marine creatures up to 70 individuals, that were made up of all sorts of shapes and sizes. Some of the adult sharks even measured up to six meters in length.

However, environmental experts still do not know how the humpback whale died, whether it was already dead when the sharks found it or was it slaughtered by this school of sharks. This video already became viral with almost 500,000 views.

On their Facebook page, Eco Abrolhos Cruises posted the feeding frenzy footage, as passengers who are spending a two week Geraldton to Broome trip was treated to this amazing event, nature in full action, while cruising in Dirk Hartog island.

According to drone pilot, Bruno Kataoka, this event is also reminiscent of an earlier feeding frenzy where false killer whales were chasing a younger shark and then devouring it, as Kataoka also captured that footage. He adds, they always do not expect something like this to happen, which is very exciting, where they were just at the right moment and the right time.
