The 30-year-old native of Dallas, Texas will not take part in the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Aldridge pulled his name out of the roster pool of 31 finalists due to a dislocated right pinkie finger he suffered during a 112-101 loss to the Golden State Warriors on 7th of April late in the preseason.

On Monday, Spurs general manager RC Buford said they club will "always support a player's decision when it comes to participation with his national team."

The 2006 NBA Draft second overall pick was named a contender for the Olympic men's basketball squad of the Team USA on January 17. Aldridge averages 18 points and 8.5 rebounds with 51.3 percent shooting. He played 74 games during the regular season.

Aldridge, a three-time member of the NBA Third Team, was considered a long shot to be chosen for the 12-man roster. The University of Texas player has never played for the America and has withdrawn from consideration on several times previously.

Aldridge is the latest prominent sport's figure to skip the chance to play in the Olympics after Stephen Curry, Blake Griffin, Anthony Davis, and Chris Paul. His decision, first reported by ESPN.com, comes on the day the Curry, who is the ruling back-to-back Most Valuable Player of the league, also withdrew following the recent knee and ankle injuries he suffered during games against the Houston Rockets.

Aldridge just wrapped up the first year of his US$80 million four-year contract with the Spurs. He helped San Antonio reach the semifinal round of the Western Conference.
