The 19-year-old Indonesian shuttler, who currently holds the 31st spot in the updated BWF world rankings released yesterday, got the better of the incumbent world No. 2 and the Sydney-based World Superseries tournament's defending champion Long with a two straight set 21-14, 21-17 victory.

The win takes Ginting to the semifinal round of the competition, where he will be facing South Korea's Jeon Hyeok Jin on Saturday.

"I really enjoyed this match. I had nothing to lose and I played much better than yesterday and I made fewer mistakes. I played very attacking because he is tall and can stretch far. I am very happy," said Ginting, who wrapped up their quarterfinal match in just 44 minutes.

The Chinese badminton ace continued his title dry spell since last year's Denmark Open. The two-time world champion and Olympic bronze-medalist will have to wait until September for a shot at the next competition.

"The match was very fast and he was moving quicker than me. He didn't have any pressure on him and he was able to play freely. He played quite well," the 27-year-old Hubei-native admitted.

Long lost his world No. 1 ranking after he pulled out from the recently-concluded BCA Indonesia Open due to an injury.  Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei, who was the eventual winner of the tournament, surpassed the Chinese badminton star after securing a maximum 11,000 ranking points for claiming the title.

The 2015 All England Open Championships winner currently has a total of 88,944 points in 14 tournaments that he competed in and trails by a gap of 5,509 ranking points behind Lee's 94,453 ranking points.
