Fans of the Mega Man and Rockman have been waiting for several years for a sequel now, and after numerous delays, Mighty No. 9 is finally hitting the shelves. Considered as the spiritual successor to the Mega Man franchise, Mighty No. 9 has been affected by several delays since it was first announced.

In a statement posted on its official website on Tuesday, the Mighty No. 9 team wrote, "The day is finally here! All of our backers should be receiving mails from Humble Bundle regarding their key redemption in the next few minutes. Everyone's keys should already be available on their Humble Bundle accounts as well if you just can't wait for the mail!"

The team added that backers from North America and Asia are being prioritized and will receive the keys first. Other regions will subsequently receive their keys as the game slowly rolls out to all backers.

Might No. 9 started as a Kickstarter project which was launched back in September 2013. The project quickly reached its funding goal of $900,000 and eventually went on to amass nearly $3.9 million throughout the whole campaign period. Just like other video game projects which started as a Kickstarter campaign, Mighty No. 9 appealed to the gaming community mainly due to nostalgia. After all, the project was launched by notable Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune.

Following its success on Kickstarter, Mighty No. 9 went downhill from there. The game was originally scheduled for an April 2015 release, but it was eventually postponed a couple of times due to development issues. Also, updates about the game's development were irregular which led many fans to express their disappointments to the developers.

Many fans and critics agree that the game's development team might have been overwhelmed by the massive reception the game received during its Kickstarter campaign. The sheer magnitude of expectation may have led the team to raise the bar to meet what fans expect.
