Back in May, Chinese tech company Elephone announced that its P8000 smartphone would be receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. After nearly two months of waiting, the Elephone officially has announced that it is rolling out the update.

Elephone is set to release the update over-the-air. The only way to get the update at the moment is to download it manually, according to GizChina.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update brings major changes and upgrades to the platform such as an improved app permission management, energy saving mode, new security features, and turbo download mode.

The Elephone P8000 was released last year as a flagship device. The smartphone has an impressive set of specs.

The Elephone P8000 has a MediaTek MT6753 chipset with an ARM Cortex-A53 octa-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz and a Mali T720 graphics processing unit. It has 3GB of memory and 16GB of storage space which can be expanded using the microSD slot. It has a 5.5.-inch IPS display with 1080 x 1920 resolution.

The Elephone P8000 has a powerful 4160mAh battery pack. It has a 13-megapixel rear facing camera and a 5-megapixel front facing camera for selfie shots.

According to Android Authority, the Elephone P8000 costs $170 and is available in three color variants; gold, silver, and white.
