Japanese-American model and actress Kiko Mizuhara took to her Sina Weibo account to apologize via a video to Chinese netizens after she was accused of displaying anti-China statements sentiments.

The BBC reported that Mizuhara, who is rumored to be the girlfriend of KPop superstar BIGBANG member G-Dragon, has been receiving flak on Weibo since late April. Mizuhara, whose real name is Audrie Kiko Daniel, faced online backlash after Chinese actress-director Vicki Zhao released a poster of her second directorial effort entitled "No Other Love." Mizuhara and actor Leon Dai are part of the cast.

Many Chinese residents were not happy about her being part of the Chinese-directed film as old photos show Mizuhara's anti-China statements as well as alleged right-wing Japanese nationalism. Some fans even threatened to boycott "No Other Love," The New Paper reported.

In one of the photos, Mizuhara was seen posing with the Rising Sun Flag. In another image, she was seen visiting the controversial Yasukuni Shrine. Mizuhara reportedly also liked a 2013 Instagram photo of the rebellious artist Ai Weiwei giving Tiananmen Square, which is one of Beijing's most iconic landmarks, the middle finger.

The video uploaded by Mizuhara lasted for almost five minutes. It was recorded in English while some parts were in Mandarin. She said that she is not the woman in the photos but admitted that she like the photo of Ai but noted that it is something she regrets. She added, "I found out that my friend has posted an extremely inappropriate picture... I deleted my 'like' within an hour."

She concluded her video by apologizing in Mandarin. She said that love and peace would bring people together and make the world a better place.

The video has been shared more than 90,000 times on Weibo and has received 140,000 comments. One commenter wrote, "I want to let you know we believe in you. In my heart, you are always a lovely and brave girl who shows great goodwill to our country China. We love you and apologize to you." Another person, who claims to be Chinese, wrote that he feels the actress has not done anything wrong and that no good person would blame Mizuhara.

The video of Mizuhara apologizing has resulted in Taiwanese and Hong Kong netizens posting mock videos and apologies on a Facebook page called "First Annual Apologize to China Contest."
