Honor 8 Launch Date Announced; 2K Display Confirmed

Honor will officially launch the Honor 8 Note phablet on Aug. 1 at the Huawei Exhibition Center in Beijing, Huawei announced via a teaser on its Weibo account on Monday.

Honor, which has garnered a reputation for offering smartphones with flagship specs and features at affordable prices, is a sub-brand of Huawei, which is one of the leading smartphone manufacturers in China.

Honor recently launched the Honor 8 model and more than 5 million people registered for the device for the sale of its first batch. The company is now gearing up to unveil the Honor 8 Note smartphone to take on Xiaomi's Mi Max.

The Honor 8 Note will feature a huge 6.6-inch screen that comes with a 2K resolution (which is 2560 x 1440), as the company teased in its announcement, according to GSMArena.

The device will be available in two variants, one with 3GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage and one with 4GB RAM and 64 GB of storage, both of which can be expandable.

There is speculation that the base model will be powered by a Kirin 950 SoC with a 2.5 GHz octa-core CPU whereas the high-end variant will run on a superior Kirin 955. Both models will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The Honor 8 Note's other features include a 13-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front snapper and a 4,400 mAh battery with fast-charging capabilities in addition to a fingerprint scanner and a USB Type-C Port, according to Android Headlines.

The 3GB RAM/32 GB storage model will retail for CNY 1,999 ($299) while the 4GB RAM/64 GB storage variant will be priced at CNY 2,299 ($344).
