Ahead of the public release of the Android 7.0 Nougat, the Huawei P9 beta build has been leaked online, giving fans a preview of the latest version of the Android operating system.

The beta build was leaked through XDA’s forums with screenshots showing off the update in all of its glory, according to GSMArena. The build posted to XDA can be flashed to stock, unrooted, bootloader-locked P9 phones via Huawei's Dload tool. It appears to be an update file, not a full system flash.

The beta build is now available for users to flash. A number of people have apparently flashed the ROM, and it comes with version 5.0 of Huawei's EMUI skin.

The over-the-air (OTA) build for the P9 include the following changes:

  • Added Multi-user support
  • Optimized interactive gestures
  • Added Huawei's ROG power saving technology for the first time (can decrease screen resolution to save power)
  • General optimizations

Apparently, the ROM was built using the publicly available AOSP code for the Android N betas that Google released. Once the complete version of Android 7.0 Nougat is released by Google, Huawei's work to update the current ROM beta will be much less time consuming and faster. Other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) have been doing the same thing, making the Android 7.0 Nougat update faster for everyone. Huawei is not the only company working on Nougat betas. Sony also worked on an Android Nougat build for the Xperia Z3, which has been released, Android Police reported.
