Former NBA Journeyman Mar Shon Brooks to Play for Jiangsu Dragons for Another Season

Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) club Jiangsu Nangang Dragons Nanjing has extended the contract of the former NBA guard Mar Shon Brooks to play for the team in the upcoming 2016-17 season.

According to Asia-Basket, the 27-year-old native of Long Branch, New Jersey was a prolific scorer in his first season with the Chinese professional basketball team. In the l2015-16 season, Brooks was the third leading scorer of the CBA averaging an impressive 35.0 points per game.

The American swingman registered averages of 5.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 2.3 steals in 41.5 minutes of playing time in the 36 official matches that he appeared for the team. Brooks led the Dragons to a 12th place finish having won 18 games of their 38 scheduled matches last season.

Brooks is listed 6-ft-5-in tall (1.96 meters) and weighs 200 pounds (91 kilograms). He played college basketball with the Providence Friars of the NCAA Division I Big East Conference.

In his final season with the Friars, He posted an average of 24.6 points per outing. Brooks was Providence's third player to hit two 40-point games in a season in its history.

Brooks was the 2011 NBA Draft 25th overall pick selected by the Boston Celtics. However, he was immediately traded to the New Jersey Nets, where he played for two seasons.

Brooks averaged 12.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while shooting 42.8 percent from the field in his rookie year.

Brooks also played for the Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, and Brooklyn Nets in the NBA, as well as with Santa Cruz Warriors and Maine Red Claws of the NBA D-League.
