India Shrugs off China’s Warning Over Deployment of BrahMos Missiles to Arunachal Pradesh

India on Tuesday hit back at China after Beijing warned New Delhi over its plans to deploy BrahMos cruise missiles to the disputed state of Arunachal Pradesh, saying that China must not meddle in India's internal matters.

"Our threat perceptions and security concerns are our own, and how we address these by deploying assets on our territory should be no one else's concern," top sources in the India Army told NDTV Channel.

"India deploying supersonic missiles on the border has exceeded its own needs for self-defense and poses a serious threat to China's Tibet and Yunnan provinces," the PLA Daily, China's military mouthpiece, said on Monday.

New Delhi's decision to deploy the ballistic cruise missiles is the latest in its military buildup at the Indo-China border areas. Last week, India's Air Force commissioned a new airfield in Arunachal Pradesh. This move was preceded by the deployment of 100 military tanks near Ladakh border.

The BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, aircraft or land. It has the capability to carry warheads weighing up to 300 kg and can strike enemy targets on land as well as sea.

China's Claim over Arunachal Pradesh

China is laying claim to several parts of Arunachal Pradesh. Beijing insists that these territories are part of Tibet.

Arunachal Pradesh is currently served by a Line of Actual Control (LAC), which is the defacto border dividing the two countries. Military officials of both countries regularly meet to maintain peace at the LAC.

India has proposed to convert LAC into permanent border on several occasions, but China has refused.
