Chinese smartphone manufacturer Elephone has announced that it is releasing a new update for the source code of the Elephone P9000. This new development follows the publication of the Elephone P9000's source code last month.

Through the native kernel, the Elephone P9000 received the first version of the CyanogenMod 13 firmware. However, with the latest update of the smartphone's source code, the tech community is expecting new versions of CyanogenMod 13 to be modified and customized, according to Giz China. These changes will most likely contain various fixes which are expected to be released in the coming days.

Although there are skepticism regarding the release, some expect the update to be close to a final build. Eager users are also expecting a fix for the Wi-Fi tethering issue that has since been a big problem for them.

The Elephone P9000 is a decent smartphone, especially for its price. Under the hood, the phone packs a MediaTek Helio P10 MTK6755 chipset with a 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 2GHz, an ARM Mali T860 graphics processing unit, 4GB of memory, and 32GB of storage space which can be expanded via the microSD card slot.

The P9000 has a 5.5-inch display with Full HD resolution. It runs on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. It has a 3000mAh battery pack that supports both Quick Charge technology and wireless charging. The Elephone P9000 also sports a reversible USB Type-C, and Near Field Communication which should make it possible for the phone to support digital payment platforms.
