Wayne Lai is not afraid to give way to young stars. In fact, the three-time TV Best Actor winner is urging the audience to also support upcoming actors.

Lai was recently at the dinner banquet for the cast and crew of TVB's anniversary drama Lord of Shanghai, which concluded on Sunday.  He was earlier awarded the "Favorite TVB Character" at the TVB Star Awards Malaysia 2015 for his performance as Kung Siu-shan in Lord of Shanghai, although he lost the "Favorite TVB Actor" to Ruco Chan of Captain of Destiny.

But Lai has no qualms. It's a fair competition after all.

"This is a fair result," he explained. "Audience vote takes up a huge portion in determining the results." He went on to praise Ruco for a well-delivered performance in his role in the TV drama.

"He's a very experienced actor, and he absolutely deserves the award," he said.

Lai rose to prominence following his role in the award-winning drama Rosy Business in 2009. But after all the accolades that he has achieved, does he still want to compete for an acting prize?

"At this point in my career, winning another is just icing on the cake," he said. What he want is to give other actors the chance to showcase their craft.

"In fact, I hope to see other colleagues win it because these awards are huge encouragements. I honestly don't care. I already won it three times," he said.

He urged Hong Kong movie fans to welcome a newer breeds of actors. "We need more junior actors in this industry. The audience should also be accepting of newer actors. We always hear complaints about seeing the same people, but it takes time to cultivate a new cast. Without the new, how can there be an old? The audience needs to be more accepting, and we also need to give newer actors more opportunities so they can move up. This way, the industry can develop more healthily," he said.
