Robert Downey, Jr.: "Guardians of the Galaxy" "is the best Marvel movie ever"

Robert Downey, Jr., star of "Iron Man" and "The Avengers", just told the Toronto Sun that "Guardians of the Galaxy" "is the best Marvel movie ever".

The 49-year old actor even admits that the review really says something about the summer blockbuster, especially coming from him.

"And it's odd for someone with - on occasion - an ego the size of mine to actually say that," he explained.

The actor shared that he admires Marvel's move to celebrate the underdogs, to place lesser-known talents in the forefront and, successfully pull off an unprecedented $US 500 million in sales at the box office.

Downey shared, "It's like you have a great quarterback, and his brother plays for another team, and then you say: 'Look, this is their second cousin and we think he has a great arm and he should start.' And then he goes and wins the Superbowl."

But aside from acknowledging the success of "Guardians of the Galaxy", Downey stated that the hit movies of Marvel in recent years, paved the way for not-so-well-known Marvel stories and characters to take centerstage.

Downey shared that all the superheroes, including Iron Man, that came before the minor ones, "have afforded Marvel the opportunity to essentially take what was a third-tier, minor kind of upstart bit of potential from one of their comic-book series and say: 'Look!'"

The actor will once again be playing Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man in the "Avengers: Age of Ultron" which will premiere in May of next year.

"Avengers" Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo and Samuel L. Jackson will all be back for the highly-anticipated installment.

Downey is currently in Toronto, Canada for the world premiere of his new flick, the legal drama "The Judge", at the Toronto International Film Festival.
