With the age of modern technology, not everyone likes to take the stairs.
However, the public may change its mind and take the stairs instead after several college students pulled an initiative and launched the Happy Stair program, reported Want China Times.
A senior student at the National Taipei University of Technology along with her peers painted three sets of stairs. The student identified as Chiu Shao-chi said they wanted to turn dull and boring stairs to life and a place of public artwork.

The group painted stairs with flowers and colorful, huge butterflies. Chiu said they hope to paint and bring life to more stairs in the future.
The inspiration came after Chiu went to Turkey as an exchange student. She said she was able to see eye-turning staircases painted with rainbow colors. She also added people were drawn to take a sit, read and even talk to one another.
Chiu said Taiwanese people are not really drawn to the arts. She also said similar projects like her Happy Stair program has already been happening in other countries. Furthermore, she said her love for the arts and her talent to paint brings her happiness and to other people as well.
The initiative started after Chiu’s post on Facebook. The senior university student posted, "If it isn't illegal, would anyone want to join me to paint staircases?"
Chiu was then surprised to see people enthusiastically responding to her Facebook query. She said the project has set a goal of painting 100 dull staircases in the country and giving them life with colors.
The group’s first project was at Fuxing Elementary School in New Taipei. They painted black and white butterflies with gold and red flowers. The theme also matched the goal of the school to promote ecological education.
Chiu said aside from working with elementary and middle schools, the group is also looking for abandoned stars in other areas.
