Pillars of Eternity Delayed by Obsidian until 2015

Pillars of Eternity

Obsidian Entertainment has announced another small delay to Pillars of Eternity, moving the release date back to early 2015. This is the second delay in 2014. Previously, Obsidian had pushed the release date back to late 2014.

CEO Feargus Urquhart said on the Paradox Interactive's forums:

"Since the very beginning of this project we promised our fans and ourselves that we would release this game only when we knew it would be absolutely ready for the best experience possible. We're very close to that point, but not quite there yet."

By fans, Feargus is recalling the original Kickstarter campaign, where Pillars of Eternity was first announced. Back in October 2012, it was called Project Eternity and managed to raise $4 million, showing the loyal Obsidian Entertainment, previously known as Black Isle Studios.

The main reason for the delay is the feedback Obsidian received from beta testing Pillars of Eternity. With the information from the play-testers, they will work on making a solid product for early 2015 launch.

Pillars of Eternity looks to bring back some of the older mechanics seen in Balder's Gate and Icewind Dale, two of Obsidian's most loved games. There has been a recent resurgence in these types of games, inXile Entertainment just released Wasteland 2, another crowd-funded game.

Project Eternity is still one of the largest Kickstarters and the second largest video game, coming second to Torment: Tides of Numenera, another game developed by inXile Entertainment.

Black Isle Studios is most famous for its Fallout series, but after financial bankruptcy, the group had to sell Fallout rights to Bethesda Softworks. The team has been working on a new IP ever since the relaunch of the studio, alongside working with Bethesda on Fallout: New Vegas.
