Tiger Woods' back spasms recurred, forcing him to withdraw from the Farmers Insurance Open Thursday, just after playing 11 holes.
Woods said his back tightened during a 2-hour fog delay at Torrey Pines. Woods started showing signs of distress early on in his first round.

"It's frustrating that it started shutting down like that," Woods told reporters in a brief interview. "I got cold, and everything started deactivating again. And it's frustrating that I just can't stay activated. That's just kind of the way it is," he added.
Woods started the round 2-over par, and was coming off a double bogey when he called it quits. He shook hands with playing partners Billy Horschel and Rickie Fowler and got carted off the course.
Woods underwent a micro discectomy less than a year ago to repair a bulging disc in his back. He tried playing again in July, but recurring back pains forced him to shut down the 2014 season to allow his back and body to heal. He slowly resumed playing in October and then returned in December at the Hero World Challenge. He tied for last but showed promise with his swing under a new instructor.
Horschel said Woods was obviously in pain just about the 10th tee of the North Course.
"If I didn't see it on 10, I saw it on 11," Horschel said. "Then I asked him when I walked off the 12th tee. I said, 'back hurting you again?' He said, 'Spasms.' And it was unfortunate."
Last week was the worst for Woods. He was coming off a career-high 82 when he missed 36-hole cut by 12 shots at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Woods fell to 56th in the World Golf Ranking this week.
He needs to make it in the top 50 to qualify for the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral in March. But it remains unclear now when he will be able to resume hitting balls again.
His next scheduled event is the Honda Classic in three weeks.
