A woman reportedly got the shock of her life when she found a body of a man inside the trunk of her car parked outside a Wal-Mart store in the 5200 block of Van Buren Boulevard.

Investigators disclosed that the woman, who drove the vehicle described as a gold Lexus GS 300, went to Wal-Mart earlier that day. She allegedly made the grisly discovery at roughly 4:45 in the afternoon. According to the distraught woman, she was with a shopper when they found the body.

In an interview with the police, the woman shared that she been smelling something "funny" all day, but thought nothing of it. She told the responding officers that she was with a shopper when they made the gruesome discovery. The shopper who accompanied her was about to place the grocery bags in the trunk of her car when they discovered the body of the man stashed inside. "She was freaking out," Robert Lugan, a witness, told the police. "They had to put her in a squad car and take her home," he added.

In a statement from the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, investigators deem it possible that the victim was killed in Pomona, the area where the woman who owns the car resides. Witnesses to the ghastly discovery made by the woman described the car owner as shell-shocked. They also added that she mostly freaked out because she recognized the dead man in her trunk as her neighbor.

At present, the case has been taken over by the detective from the Pomona Police Department. They have not yet released information with respect to how well acquainted was the car owner with the dead man. An autopsy will be conducted by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner to ascertain the victim's identity, as well as his manner of death.

The police examining the scene have yet to determine how long the body has been locked inside the trunk of the car. "It's hot out so it's hard to say how long the body had been there, it won't take long for a body to decompose in this weather," Sgt. Dave Amador from the Riverside Police Department stated. "It's very unusual," Sgt. Amador said, "it's one of a kind. I mean, we do get bodies in trunks. But to open it up and say they know him. And didn't know they were in there, that's unusual," the officer added.

According to one witness, the victim had been around the neighborhood the previous night. He added that the woman's husband was not thrilled with the man's presence and asked him to leave.
