A man from California was arrested Thursday for allegedly killing and cooking the dog of his ex-girlfriend, then serving it to her in a meal.

Authorities arrested Ryan Eddy Watenpaugh for allegations involving the killing or cooking of his ex-girlfriend's pet, a Pomeranian. According to police records, the dog was reported missing by its owner prior to learning that her ex-boyfriend killed it. Watenpaugh refuted all the claims against him. He admitted, however, that he delivered the paws of the missing pet on the doorstep of his ex-girlfriend.

A search of Watenpaugh's house revealed that the suspect owned a Romanian variant AK-47 assault rifle, as well as high-capacity magazines. Apart from murdering the victim's dog, Watenpaugh's ex-girlfriend also confessed to having been beaten by the suspect several times. In her statement, the victim divulged that she only dated Watenpaugh for a few months before deciding to leave him for good. In addition, he has held the victim against her will in some occasions. The 34-year-old suspect is currently facing charges of domestic violence, stalking, and animal cruelty.

Investigators found that the woman was attacked by Watenpaugh on August 4. She barely managed to run away from the house by sprinting out the apartment's back door. When she thought it was safe for her to return to her home, she discovered that Watenpaugh had left. She also found that her pet Pomeranian, called Bear, was missing.

Despite their previous physical altercation, Watenpaugh and the woman briefly got back together in the early parts of September. Their reunion was culminated by the suspect's supposedly romantic effort to cook a meal with meat for the victim. On September 7, Watenpaugh sent a text message to woman asking "how her dog tasted".

"How's your dog taste? I thought it was better with BBQ and those Hawaiian buns," Watenpaugh taunted the victim in a text message. "I guess u could bury what u didn't eat," he texted again. "The smile on my face when you read this ... priceless," the suspect sent.

Watenpaugh then visited the woman's apartment on Tuesday. He did not confront the victim, but left a tiny bag by her front door. Inside the bag was a note and two dog paws. "Burn in hell," said the note. "I hate you so much it hurts. Stay away from me. I want nothing to do with you. F--- you," it added.

Additional charges against Watenpaugh are currently being studied by the police. He was booked at Shasta County jail as a replacement for the $250,000 bail.
