The Chicago Bulls has signed shooting guard RJ Hunter to a one-year, $1.2 million deal on Thursday after he was waived by the Boston Celtics three days earlier.

Hunter, 23, was the Celtics' 28th overall pick in last year's NBA Draft and had played 36 games for Boston last season, averaging 2.7 points and 1.0 rebounds in only 8.8 minutes per game. He also appeared in five games in the playoffs, contributing 1.0 points and 1.2 boards in 8.2 minutes of playing time a night.

Unintentionally, the Bulls opened its regular season against the Celtics on Thursday night, and so Hunter is again with his former teammates but this time on the other side of the floor. Chicago won the game, 105-99, with Hunter not yet suiting up with his new squad.

"I'm just happy for him," said Celtics guard Avery Bradley, via MassLive. "When I found out (about the signing), we were all talking about it. We were all like, 'Yeah man. RJ's on another team.' Just happy for him. It's part of the journey."

"It's just cool to see that a team wanted him that fast and he has a chance to go out there and show his talents and prove himself," Bradley added.

Even his former head coach, Celtics' Brad Stevens, offered congratulatory messages for the sophomore guard after hearing the news.

"I'm not surprised he got picked up," said Stevens. "We said the other day we had more than 15 NBA players (before waiving Hunter), and so it was just a matter of time who he was going to get picked up by. So it was good that he did."

Meanwhile, Today's Fastbreak indicated that the Celtics waiving Hunter after a solid preseason is "not a good sign," as the former Georgia State standout is set for a breakout season if given the opportunity.

It remains to be seen how Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg could maximize Hunter's potential this season, but his outside shooting definitely stands out among Chicago's current crop of guards.
