Patrick Stewart Cheers up Star Trek Fan at Dragon Con

"X-Men" star Sir Patrick Stewart made one sick girl very happy when he made a surprise visit to the Dragon Con event in Georgia on September 1.

The 11-year old girl named Dawn Garrigus, who's afflicted with a progressive mitochondrial disease that causes physical, mental and developmental disabilities, had won a chance to go to the Dragon Con earlier this month through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Dawn, an avid fan of Star Trek, showed up at the convention dressed as the character Mr. Spock, but little did she know that she was in for a surprise visit from Patrick Stewart, who played the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the futuristic space adventure.

Stewart had heard that the fan was going to the convention and had personally arranged a surprise meet and greet with her.

The "Star Trek" star took snapshots with Dawn and her family, who accompanied her to the convention. The actor also signed pictures of himself as Captain Picard and presented them to the little Trekkie.

In an e-mail that Dawn sent to a media outlet, she said she was shy and didn't know what to say during the meet and greet, but Stewart just kept talking to her.

The little Trekkie said she felt like she was a part of the Enterprise speaking to Captain Picard.

Danny and Kristy Garrigus, Dawn's parents, also wrote an e-mail saying it was the happiest moment they've seen their daughter at for some time.

They said Stewart's visit to the convention seemed to have a positive effect on their daughter, adding that Dawn didn't feel as isolated as she did before.

"Her brief visit with Sir Patrick has alleviated that feeling which we cannot begin to express gratitude for," Dawn's parents wrote.

They thanked Stewart for his kind act and said they will always remember him.
