Former NBA Journeyman Sebastian Telfair Set to Play in China

Former NBA player Sebastian Telfair has reportedly inked a deal to play for the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) side Fujian Sturgeons.

In an article of the SB Nation, international basketball reporter David Pick reported that the 2004 USA Mr. Basketball winner agreed on a one-month playing contract to play for professional Chinese basketball club as a replacement for the injured Dwight Buycks.

Telfair is listed 6-foot-0 tall (1.83 meters) and weighs 170 pounds (77 kilograms). He is a product of Abraham Lincoln High School and went directly drafted in the 2004 NBA Draft. He was the 13th overall pick of the said draft class and was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers where he played for a total of 136 games in two seasons.

Telfair, who was originally set to play in Italy with the Auxilium CUS Torino this season before negotiations fell through, is not a new comer in the premier Chinese basketball league. According to RealGM, the former NBA journeyman played 22 official games with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers in its 2014-15 seasons while posting averages of 19.9 points, 4.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per outing.

The Brooklyn, New York-born American point guard has also signed with the CBA side Tianjin Ronggang in October 2013 after his short stint with the Toronto Raptors, where he appeared in 13 official matches during the 2012-13 NBA season. Telfair also played 46 games for the Phoenix Suns during that same season, posting averages of 6.0 points, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 rebounds in 17.3 minutes.

Telfair has also previously played professionally with the teams of Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA. He has compiled a total of 564 games in over the course of his 10-year NBA career.

The Sturgeons are currently ranked 16th in the 20-squad Chinese league with three wins and five losses and the team is hoping for the best as Telfair joined in.
