Paris Cinema Chain Opens Virtual Reality Complex

HTC Vive Headset Launch will be Delayed Until April Next Year

The growing interest towards virtual reality is hampered by the fact that it costs too much for most casual users to try. The Oculus Rift headset costs $500, and it requires a powerful personal computer that would cost somewhere around the price range in order to build. Luckily, a movie theater chain based in Paris, France, is giving interested users a chance to experience virtual reality without the need to shell out the cash.

Cinema chain MK2 recently launched a new virtual reality experience where users can get a chance to play some of the latest virtual reality games and videos available. According to Digital Trends, the cinema chain supports the Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive, and the PlayStation VR in order to give customers all the available options in trying out virtual reality.

MK2 is charging customers $25 for 40 minutes, which is hardly a fraction of the actual cost in buying a virtual reality headset and building a personal computer to run it. For that price, customers can try out popular titles like "Star Wars Battlefront: Mission X-Wing VR" and "The Climb." They can also choose to watch select virtual reality movies or fly around Manhattan's cityscape in the Birdly motion simulator.

In a statement acquired by Engadget, MK2 general manager Elisha Karmitz said, "MK2 VR is the first facility in France dedicated to the best VR experiences in films, documentaries, video games and even flying motion sims."

MK2's virtual reality experience is situated in the company's flagship cinema located in the southeast part of Paris. The VR experience will open on Sunday (Dec. 11).
