Recent rumors have emerged that the Cleveland Cavaliers are eyeing Chicago Bulls point guard Rajon Rondo as a potential solution to their current backup point guard problems.

Rondo, 30, continues to be a problem for whatever team he is in and his time in Chicago is no exception. Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg has kept him on the bench for three straight games with the coach saying that it was a "basketball decision". Rondo had said that he will seek a trade should the Bulls continue to bench him.

CBS Sports reported that the Cavs are "keeping an eye" on Chicago's Rondo saga and could approach the Bulls for a trade before the February deadline.

The report noted, though, that it "doesn't seem like the best move" for Cleveland to get Rondo because of his "inconsistent and unhelpful play as of late". Acquiring Rondo at this stage of his career "may do more harm than good for the Cavs" as the team aims to defend their NBA title this season.

LeBron James, who was left as the only member of the Cavs' Big Three during their 106-94 defeat to the Bulls on Wednesday night, said after the loss that they need a "veteran backup point guard".

"That was obvious from day one, first day of training camp," said James. "We don't have a reliable, veteran backup point guard."

Kyrie Irving was out due to a right hamstring injury while Kevin Love is also sidelined because of illness during the said match.

Fansided indicated that the problem for the Cavs is that the team has no open roster spots right now, which means that a trade is the only option for them if they do not want to waive anybody on the roster at the moment.

The next question would be what kind of trade package Cleveland will offer Chicago for the Bulls to agree on a deal.

Despite the loss, the Cavs are still on top of the Eastern Conference with a 26-8 record. However, the team would need to find a solution to their point guard woes soonest if they want to keep Irving fresh for the playoff battles ahead.
