A spokesperson for the General Administration of Sports in China explained that the recent events in the football sector were quite worrying and needed rectification, according to RTE.

He was quoted saying the the fast development of soccer in the country has attracted a couple of problems including "large scale overseas acquisitions... not attaching importance to local talent and neglecting long-term achievements."

He added that examination and regulations of the various football clubs in China would be controlled to ensure that the players in each team get a fitting financial state while at the club.

"As an administration, we will set a cap on clubs' expenditure on buying players," the spokesperson said. "We will combat signing bonuses among other violations and take affirmative actions against players or brokers that seek signing bonuses."

Former Chelsea player and Brazil star Oscar was signed to Shanghai SIPG in a £60 million ($63.5 million) deal, with an expected an annual salary of £24 million ($25.3 million), beating the likes of Barcelona's Lionel Messi's annual salary.

The Telegraph quoted Arsene Wenger, Arsenal's manager, defining the recent moves by China's football as distorted and a great threat to the English Premier league.

"The Chinese market is a threat not only for Chelsea but all teams in the world," said Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.
