The opening ceremony of 2013 China International Translation Contest was held in Beijing on September 2nd, 2013.  The organizing committee of "2013 China International Translation Contest" selected 30 acclaimed Chinese contemporary short stories from award-winning writers, including works by Tie Ning, Mo Yan, Wang Meng, Jia Pingao, etc.

"These 30 pieces of short stories are the essences of Chinese contemporary literature, fully reflecting the level of literacy creation in China after China's reform and opening up," said Shi Zhanjun, chief editor of "People's Literature", "I believe that the translation contest will help promote more professional and more accurate understanding of Chinese literacy in the world."

Shi Zhanjun further pointed out, "Among the writers whose works have been chosen, one is a Nobel Prize winner, ten are Mao Dun Literature Prize winners and Seventeen are Lu Xun Literature Prize winners. All the selected works have received different prizes. They are representative enough for Chinese contemporary literature and are expected to be passed down from generations to generations in the history of Chinese literacy."

According to the organizers, both individual and group translators are welcomed to participate in the translation contest. Participants can choose one of the 30 acclaimed Chinese contemporary short stories to translate into English, French, Russian, Spainish, or Arabic. Submission should not be later than February 28th, 2014. All the works will be reviewed by experts between March to April, 2014. The winning works will be published between May to August, 2014 and the book will be first launched in 2014 Beijing International Book Fair.

2013 China International Translation Contest is co-hosted by the State Council Information Office of the People's Republic of China, the Chinese Writers Association and the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, and is co-organized by the "China Book International" group, Translators Association of China, China Writers Association and "People's Literature" magazine.
