Trump Declines to Meet the Dalai Lama: Pillsbury

A request by the Dalai Lama to visit President elect, Donald Trump has been rejected

China could see a more likely better relationship with the US after Donald Trump reportedly declined an early request to host the Dalai Lama, Michael Pillsbury, the president-elect's chief advisor, said while speaking at the Pangoal Think Tank Forum in China.

Pillsbury said that the conflict of interest over Arunachal Pradesh between China and India is putting the US at a critical position. This, he explained is because of the ongoing arms sales between USA and India.

"China claims Arunachal Pradesh, India has engaged in a military build-up to protect the region," he said.

He went on to say that despite the continuous request from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the US to intervene, there has been no response on the matter.

"Whether President Trump supports India's claim on the matter and continues arms sales to India is another Chinese worry about the coming year," he added.

India and China have been in a constant war path not only because of Arunachal Pradesh province but on matters to do with the Dalai Lama.

Last October, the spokesperson for India's foreign affairs, Vikas Swarup, explained that the Dalai Lama is a welcomed guest at Arunachal Pradesh this coming March, despite the India-China territorial dispute, according to a report by the Times of India.

"He has a sizeable Buddhists follower in the province who values his blessing," said Swarup. "He has in the past visited the region and its okay if he visits again."
