Wanda Group's Wang Jianlin, China's richest man, issued a stern warning to Trump. He said that any protectionist policy is likely to result in discord between the countries. He also added that such disagreements would be detrimental to both the countries.

Speaking at World Economic Forum in Davos, Wang especially emphasized that the US should not create any barriers to stop Chinese investment in Hollywood. He said, "That would be a step back. That will be about protectionism emerging in the U.S."

He added that China constitutes a major market for English language films. Wang said that China may take retaliatory steps in response to such protectionism. He also asked the government to "leave the entertainment industry alone."

Wang also had a word of advice for Hollywood filmmakers. He said that while Hollywood movies are popular in Asia, major markets such as India and Korea also have taste for their domestically produced content. He said that Hollywood should change its approach 'to cater to Chinese tastes' if it wants to have a niche market in the country. Wang added that the filmmakers should pay special attention to the requirements of Chinese markets.

Wanda Group has vastly expanded its presence in Hollywood during recent times. The Chinese conglomerate acquired Dick Clark Productions and Legendary Entertainment last year. It already owns the world's largest cinema hall chain.

The company's shopping spree in the US has raised concerns among the lawmakers. Various political leaders including the incoming Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, have demanded stringent scrutiny of the company's deals in the country.
