Latest football rumors are out that English Premier League club Swansea City has rejected a $37.5 million offer from the Chinese Super League for midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Swans said to have received several offers from unnamed China top-flight squads to acquire the services of the 27-year-old Iceland international, with one of them amounting up to £30 million ($37.5 million). However, Swansea officials are keen on keeping "The Iceman" as they believe that he is a key player for the team to evade relegation this season, The Sun reported.

Swansea City is currently 17th in the 20-team Premier League table, only two points above the bottom three relegation area with 15 rounds to go in the term. The bottom three teams at the end of the season will be demoted to the Football League Championship, England's second-tier football competitions.

While the English transfer window has already closed, the Chinese winter window extends up to Feb. 28, so rumors of European footballers moving to the Far East still abound at this time. However, the report noted that "there is no chance" Swansea will sell Sigurdsson to China, or to any club for that matter, at this point of their campaign.

Sigurdsson scored the winning goal for the Swans at the Liberty Stadium during their 2-1 victory over Southampton on Tuesday. It was the seventh goal of the season for the 6-foot-1, Reykjavik native in the English top-flight.

Sports Mole indicated that at least "two Chinese clubs" targeted Sigurdsson, but Swansea "rejected" the bids as the club "made it clear that they were not interested in selling their star player".

Sigurdsson, who just signed a four-year contract extension with the Swans last summer, had scored eight times in 22 appearances in all competitions so far this season for head coach Paul Clement.

He had been with the club since the summer of 2014 after he was bought by Swansea from fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur for an undisclosed fee. He initially played for Swansea on loan from Hoffenheim during the 2011-2012 season.
