An Oklahoma deputy sheriff stepped down from office on Wednesday after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting two women in Tulsa County, making it the third case of its kind in the state.

Tulsa County Deputy Sheriff Gerald Nuckolls filed his resignation on Wednesday after he was taken into police custody Tuesday night for sexual assault, battery, and indecent exposure charges filed by two women against him.

According to investigators, Nuckolls reportedly came to a woman's home in Tulsa claiming to be investigating a hung-up emergency call to 911 when he allegedly touched her inappropriately.

In a separate instance, another woman reported that the 26-year-old deputy sheriff made her touch him inside his patrol car.

He is currently being held in jail on $125,000 bond.

According to authorities, there could be at least five more of Nuckolls' victims who have yet to come forward to file more sexual misconduct cases against him.

Nuckolls is the third law enforcement officer to be accused of charges of misconduct involving women in Oklahoma this year, following the case of a state highway patrol trooper and an Oklahoma City police officer.

On Monday, 42-year-old Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper Eric Roberts was arrested for kidnapping, rape, and other crimes filed by three women who claim to have been sexual assault victims of the trooper while he was on duty.

Less than a month earlier, 27-year-old Oklahoma City Police Officer Daniel Ken Holtzclaw was taken into custody for eight charges of rape, indecent exposure, and sexual battery filed by at least seven women in the city.

These arrests have left women in the state worried about their well-being as those who were supposed to protect them have become their main assailants.

"You don't know if they're trustworthy or what's gonna happen to you," Tulsa county resident Megan Mares stated, echoing other Tulsa county women's fears of being pulled over by a police officer.

Reports indicate that many of the sexual assault incidents occurred inside the officers' law enforcement vehicles.
