Lenovo, headquartered in Beijing, China and Morrisville, North Carolina, USA, already accounted for 12 per cent of shipments in Europe during the second quarter of this year while HP continues to lead with 18 per cent.

New Laptops, Devices

However, HP's market share in Europe has been affected by Lenovo's push to become the market leader in the region. The Chinese technology group announced that it will introduce new laptops and devices to achieve its goal of dominating Europe.

Gianfranco Lanci, Lenovo's president for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, said the company sees potential areas to expand in Europe. Lanci said there is still room to grow in the whole European region.

Lanci said Lenovo will introduce devices that convert from notebooks to tablets and three new models of ThinkPad laptops this week. The new models will be thinner and lighter than the previous Lenovo models.

Premium Smartphones

It will also introduce premium smartphones in an attempt to shake the lead of Samsung Electronics and Apple in Europe's smartphone market. The new smartphone models will be first introduced in China this October and will be shipped to Europe and other countries starting December, a statement from Lenovo said.

Lenovo refers to the ultra-thin Vibe X smartphone that comes in at 6.9 inches thick. It also comes with a 5-inch 1080 pixels display and installed with Gorill Glass 3. It is loaded with a quad-core 1.5 GHz MediaTek processor and 2GB RAM, with 16GB of hard drive. The Vibe X will be priced EUR149 ($196) to EUR499 ($657) in Europe.

According to research firm IDC, Samsung continues to dominate the global smartphone market with 30.4 per cent share followed by Apple's 13.1 percent share. LG Electronics comes in at third with 5.1 per cent, while Lenovo is in the fourth place with 4.7 per cent. ZTE Corp is fifth with 4.2 per cent.
