In the wake of Microsoft's US$2.5 billion acquisition of "Minecraft," Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft's Xbox Division and Microsoft Studios, confirmed Friday that the game will be coming to the mobile operating systems of the tech giant.

Spencer was asked on social media site Twitter by user Talal Al Reyami if he'd bring the first-person open-world game "Minecraft" to Microsoft's mobile OSes, namely Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 Surface.

"Yes," Spencer wrote on his twitter page.

As of the moment, the available information about the Microsoft port is only that it's confirmed. There's no word as of yet about the price, reveal and launch date and what would the game looks like on the operating systems. The game already has "Pocket" versions on iOS and Android which both cost $6.99.

A port of "Minecraft" was recently released for Microsoft's Xbox One, and the company said that it will continue to support the title across the multiple platforms it is available on.

Some gaming industry commentators earlier thought that Microsoft's acquisition of the game was spurred by a demand for the title on Windows Phone, according to Digital Trends.

The company's engineers had introduced a universal app approach, where the same code for a program is able to run across consoles, computers and phones, in April and will applicable to future releases of "Minecraft." Originally, the game was only on the PC when it came out it 2009.

The Redmond-based company's deal for the game with developer Mojang was finalized earlier in the week. The title's creator, Markus "Notch" Persson, alongside Mojang's Jakob Lerser and Carl Manneh have since left the company to work on other projects.

"As soon as this deal is finalized, I will leave Mojang and go back to doing Ludum Dares and small Web experiments," wrote Persson in a farewell post on his website. "If I ever accidentally make something that seems to gain traction, I'll probably abandon it immediately."
