The success story of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is a story of tradition in terms of relating with the masses -- the common people. The prime movers of the party are local people who have contributed greatly in improving their respective communities. These leaders are the organizers and excellent examples of workers’ ideals and values. The late Zhou Xiaohe was one of those exemplar people who bridged the party to the people.

For the people of Anlu of the Hubei Province, Zhou was the epitome of hard-working party official. Zhou work in the countryside, teaching and guiding farmers on how to control pests. He used to be seen with straw hat and a pair of rubber shoes at work. He was a community-based agricultural cadre until he died from heart-related ailment at the age of 52 years old last August. He is fondly remembered by the community that he served.

Hubei Province, particularly the city of Anlu, was among the most badly hit areas in China last summer in terms of drought and pest attacks. It was the worst case of agricultural disaster in the past six years. Zhou was sent by the CPC to assess the damage and help the farmers recuperate from their losses. His dedication to work was highly commendable, working for eight days and nights straight until his death.

Zhou has more than 31 years of public service, assisting people at the grassroots level. He has provided trainings for more than 10,000 farmers and maintained close ties with the communities he worked for. His life’s story is just one of the many of dedicated their lives in improving agriculture.

According to the Hubei’s provincial director of the agriculture department, Zhou is part of the ‘’mass line” campaign of the department. It is a long-term program that was recently launched June of this year. Its main goal is to remove the bad work attitudes and styles of officials working in the communities, including agricultural areas. The campaign is also aimed at strengthening stronger party ties with the people.
