Three Afghan army soldiers were killed on Thursday when a Taliban suicide bomber blew up a bus that carried the Afghan military troops in Kabul. Eight other Afghan army staff members were wounded in the said incident.

Dawlat Waziri, deputy spokesperson of the Ministry of Defence, confirmed the suicide bombing attack.

"I can confirm a suicide attack on a bus carrying Afghan army staff. We have three killed and eight wounded," Waziri said. "The wounded were immediately taken to the hospital and they are in a stable condition."

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said the Taliban was responsible for the attack.

"Around seven o'clock in the morning, a suicide attacker targeted a bus carrying Afghan security forces. As a result, a number of officers were killed and wounded," he stated.

This was the second attack of the Taliban in Kabul for this week. On Wednesday, Taliban suicide bombers also blew up two separate buses, killing at least seven people in the twin attacks.

The suicide bombing attacks are seen as a show of protest by the Taliban against the bilateral agreement between Afghanistan and the United States that was signed on Tuesday.

The Bilateral Security Agreement will allow around 10,000 American troops to stay in Afghanistan until next year, as part of NATO's follow-up mission which will start on January 1.

Aside from American security forces, around 3,000 soldiers from other NATO members will be deployed in Afghanistan as part of the Bilateral Security Agreement.

The follow-up mission is called "Resolute Support" and  will focus on giving support and assistance to Afghan military forces fighting against militant groups in the area.
