Just like humans, sharks also possess different personalities, according to a new study.

This research says each shark has its own "personality" that seems constant in different environments.

Researchers from the University of Exeter and Marine Biological Association of the U.K. conducted a study of 10 small groups of catsharks from different environments and observed their behavioral patterns.

These catsharks reside in the Mediterranean Sea and the northeastern part of the Atlantic Ocean. They always move in groups.

The team set up large tanks, each with a different environment, to check if sharks change their personalities in each environment.

Researchers observed the sharks resting on the ocean floor in a pile, and lying on top of each other. They considered it each shark had a personality because personality is defined as a consistent behavior that remains unchanged regardless of time and place.

The study also showed that despite different species or the intricacies of the environment, sharks stayed "social" in all cases. It also suggests some sharks can be more social than other sharks while others remain "introverted."

Researchers found out that social sharks tend to stay with like-minded sharks and the less social ones "tended to camouflage alone."

"These results were driven by different social preferences ... that appeared to reflect different strategies for staying safe. Well-connected individuals formed conspicuous groups, while less social individuals tended to camouflage alone," one of the researchers said.

Even if they are depicted as mindless eating machines, sharks still possess unique behavioral patterns that affect their interaction with other sharks.
