Bungie Might Open up Destiny Raids to Matchmaking in Future

Destiny Moon raid

Currently, Bungie has no system in place in Destiny to allow random people to fight in raids together, instead forcing players to create a Fireteam with friends, who must be online for a good few hours to complete the raid.

This has left more than a few people out of luck, especially if they don't have friends who play Destiny. It normally means players waiting outside of the raid area, who will add random people also waiting outside and fight alongside them in the arena.

Bungie is looking into this issue and might resort to adding a matchmaking system in the future. This would allow players to enter the raid area, enter a matchmaking screen and wait for the Fireteam to fill.

Not only would this allow quicker entry into raid missions, but it might open up a social experience on Destiny. Players would be given voice chat inside the raid and could add the random players after the raid is complete - thus having friends for the next Fireteam raid.

The reason Bungie is currently holding off from adding matchmaking into raids is because of the complex teamwork needed to pull off a successful raid mission. The developer believes only friends are capable of pulling this type of ordeal off.

But players we question that idea.

Games like World of Warcraft and even MOBAs like League of Legends and DoTA 2 rely heavily on teamwork to win the game. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but the option should be there for people who do not have Destiny friends.

This is not the only complaint on Destiny, but it is one Bungie can fix easily. The developer has a lot of experience with matchmaking, thanks to their Halo days. Players are seeing more raids come online as more expansion packs are announced for Destiny, making it all the more necessary to have some sort of matchmaking system.
