"It will be the first bilateral meeting this year for the presidents of the largest and second-largest economies of the world," Li said during a press briefing.

Among the issues that will be discussed during the meeting of Obama and Xi will be the China-US relationship. Experts said the discussion could also include the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

"The meeting will be significant to further boost the China-US ties," said Xi.

Xi also stressed that China will work with the United States closely to ensure a positive outcome during the two-day NSS in the Netherlands.

President Xi met with Obama on two occasions last year and both leaders reached important agreements to build a new type of major-country relationship to a new stage.

Last week, the two presidents had a telephone conversation, initiated by President Obama, to discuss China-US relationship and the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

Obama said the relationship of the two major countries has been developed since he met with the Chinese president in the United States last year.

Also during the conversation, Obama shared to Xi the stand of the United States in the ongoing crisis. Xi also said that China supports a peaceful political and diplomatic means to solve crisis.

President Xi is also set to visit France, Germany and Belgium after attending the NSS. He is also scheduled to visit the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as well as the headquarters of the European Union during the trip.
