Chinese Academy of Social Sciences researcher Liu Tao said the Taiji Palace complex spans 6,000 square meters of space. It served as the city center of Luoyang during the Han Dynasty as well the Wei State during the Three Kingdoms period.

Luoyang was an ancient city that served as capital city of various dynasties beginning in 770 BC.

Chinese historical records revealed that the Taiji Palace was constructed by Emperor Ming of the Three Kingdoms back in 235 AD, separate from the main palace.

"Several palaces were built in ancient capitals to serve different purposes," said Liu.

The Taiji Palace was a venue of important imperial activities during its time. New Year celebrations, the enthronement of emperors and important political meetings were just some of the events that were held in the Palace.

The excavation in Henan commenced in July 2011. It was conducted by the archeologists from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, who used state-of-the-art technologies and measures to successfully locate the ruins.

The archeologists, however, stressed the excavation and excavation work is not yet over because they were still trying to unearth the annex of the palace and other structures that were built at the same time that the Taiji Palace was constructed.

As this developed, the Hongjiang municipal government announced that China's top ancient commercial town, the Hongjiang Ancient Commercial Town, was damaged by fire that broke out Monday night.

Hongjiang Ancient Commercial Town, located in Hunan Province, is home to 380 ancient structures that are between 100 and 600 years old.
