Warner Bros Announces DC Superhero Movie Lineup; "Wonder Woman" To Hit Theaters In 2017

Warner Bros. announced on Wednesday that they've lined up a number of DC superhero-themed movies through 2020.

Following the buzz and the eventual release of the highly anticipated "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" starring Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot and Henry Cavill the studio is planning to create movies that revolve around the DC universe in order to compete with its arch-nemesis, Marvel Studios.

Included in the planned slate is "Wonder Woman" which is scheduled for release in 2017. The said flick will be a standalone feature, placing primary focus on the Amazonian warrior currently being played by Gadot.

Aside from "Wonder Woman", the studio is also aiming to release:

1. "Justice League 1", which sees the return of Batman, Superman and other major DC superheroes. Zack Snyder, who directed "Batman v. Superman" is set to take the director's chair for the said movie.

2. "The Flash", which is set for release in 2018. The flick will star Ezra Miller. The movie will not be connected to the DC television series.

3. "Aquaman", which will star "Game of Thrones" actor Jason Momoa as the King of Atlantis. The movie will be hitting theaters in 2018.

4. "Shazam", which will center around the anti-hero Black Adam to be portrayed by Dwayne "The Rock Johnson". The movie is set for 2019.

5. "Justice League 2", which is scheduled for release in 2019.

6. A standalone "Cyborg" movie, which is rumored to be making his debut appearance in "Dawn of Justice".

7. A reboot of the "Green Lantern", which is due for release in 2020.

8. "Suicide Squad", which revolves around aa group of villains forced to work clandestine jobs for the government. The said flick is scheduled for release in 2016.

9. "Lego Batman" is scheduled for 2017; while "Lego Movie 2" is set for 2018.

Despite having blockbuster success with "Lego Movie" and "Annabelle" this year, Warner Bros chairman Kevin Tsujihara says it has been a "tough summer", with dismal showing for "Blended" and "Jersey Boys".
